SEAD Connected Efficiency Award goes to Ecma TC38

The SEAD (Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment) Connected Efficiency Award recognizes energy efficient communications protocols and their authors. SEAD’s Global Efficiency Medal spotlight innovative new technologies that can push the boundaries of efficiency and reduce energy consumption. The 2017 winners were announced on 7 November,  following a selection by a panel of experts from the US Energy Star/Environmental Protection Agency, International Energy Agency, Swedish Energy Agency, Business NZ Energy Council/ World Energy Council, Cisco, and Natural Resources Canada.

One among the five 2017 winners is ECMA-393 “proxZzzy™ for sleeping hosts” which was published in 2012 by Ecma International and specifies maintenance of network connectivity and presence by proxies to extend the sleep duration of hosts, thus improving their global energy efficiency.

Mr. Osamu NAMIKAWA, Chairman of Ecma Product-related Environmental Attributes Standards committee (Technical Committee 38), said: “This is one in many successful environmental standards developed by the Ecma Technical Committee 38. I am very pleased for this award recognizing the Proxying Support for Sleep Modes protocol proxZzzy™. Our great team of experts have also produced standards for chemical emissions, environmental declarations, environmental conscious design and a protocol for data center resource monitoring and control.”

Dr. István Sebestyén, Secretary General of Ecma International, added: “We are honoured for this significant recognition for the work of Ecma in general, and its environmental technical committee in particular”.
